Zak Hammill took the crown as Norge Ski Club's 2010 King of the Hill in a close and thrilling competition.

A big “Thank You” to all who attended Norge Ski Club’s “King of the Hill” Tournament and Camp! We had a field of twenty-one competitors who put on a great show. Thankfully, the weather held, and with light winds and temperatures in the upper 60’s, conditions were ideal for jumpers and spectators. Norge received over 36 cases of food, donated by generous fans, which have been sent to the Cary Grove Food Pantry, making this a truly successful event.

After a First Round of two jumps, the field was narrowed to the top eleven. Because two jumpers; Mike Furey and Christian Friberg tied for the top score after the first round, a King of the Hill was not declared (see attached Rules for details). Defending 2009 King, Kyle Kessler was also still in the hunt; making the second round.

Zak Hammill stepped up in the second round with a huge jump of 78.0 Meters with Christian Friberg close behind at 77.5 Meters. Zak was crowned “King of the Hill” after the second round. Once again, the field was narrowed; this time to six ski jumpers

Zak waited while his five competitors did their best to beat his 78.0 Meter mark in the third and final round. Brian Wallace came closest, with a leap of 77.5 Meters, while Christian Friberg was able to clinch third, with a jump of 76.5 Meters. Zak Hammill waved to a cheering crowd as he skied down the landing hill victorious, as the newly crowned “King of the Hill 2010” champion.

Norge Ski Club would also like to acknowledge the volunteers that made this competition and camp possible. Countless hours were spent preparing the grounds, rebuilding the K10 and K25 Meter Hills, and readying them for summer training. Many younger athletes were able to enjoy jumping on these new plastic hills for the first time on Thursday, due to these efforts.

The 100th Anniversary Tournament at Norge was a SuperTour event

A previous Norge crowd in the winter
The crowd was pleased with the event we had last weekend. It was cold but heated tents and bon fires provided some comfort.

More pictures and stories will be posted soon.
